Courses in Pace U. Nactel Program Recognized by NSA
NACTEL (National Coalition for Telecommunications Education and Learning) announced that its primary education partner, Pace University, has been designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security as one of the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education for academic years 2004-2007. It is the only school in the New York Metropolitan area to receive this designation this year, out of total of 59 Centers that have been recognized in 27 states.
Pace University's School of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) offers the NACTEL-sponsored online telecommunications technologies programs, and three courses in this curricula: (AIT 241) Telecommunications III/Data Transmission Systems, (AIT 245) Telecommunications IV/Data and Emerging Communications Technologies, and (INT196C) Integrity Issues in Telecommunications were included in the application.
"Our NACTEL students, many of them employed in the telecommunications industry, need to understand the critical nature of maintaining secure data networks, and we're grateful that our efforts to impart this knowledge has been recognized by the U.S. government," says Nancy Hale, Chairperson of CSIS's Technology Systems department and co-director of the NACTEL program.
"NACTEL and Pace University have been partners in educating telecommunications technicians since 1999", says Susan Kannel, Executive Director of NACTEL, "and this designation is another external validation that the core curriculum for the NACTEL program is right where it should be for today's technological environment. It's also a great testament to the quality of education that the Pace faculty and staff deliver every day."
