Christopher is a busy guy at home. He just got married in June 2011, has two children of his own from a previous relationship, and his wife has two children from a prior relationship as well. So, earning his degree online through the NACTEL program at Pace University was crucial.
“I had to be really disciplined and find a schedule that worked best for my family,” said Christopher. “The NACTEL program gives you a lot of latitude in terms of letting you pick and choose times to study, so my school time didn’t have too much effect on my family.”
Christopher previously earned a Bachelor’s degree in Administration from Northwood University. Once he joined AT&T and saw the potential and the direction the company was headed, he thought it would be in his best interests to have a more technical background and get into the wireless realm.
Christopher said his degree taught him skills that helped him in his current work. “I work hand-in-hand with the engineers, and now that I have a better grasp of the infrastructure, it just makes a lot of things click.”
Christopher said that being able to earn his degree online was very beneficial because, “I was able to get a quality education while managing my personal life.”
He said he found the program well put-together, the software was very good, and the instructions were easily accessible. “Don’t get overwhelmed thinking it’ll be too difficult,” explained Christopher. “In my experience, it was painless and rewarding.”
Christopher started talking to his employees about the NACTEL program about once a month. “The company pays for it, so why not?” he said.
Christopher says he would love to get a promotion now or do a lateral move into engineering. He’s now planning to pursue a Master’s degree and is thinking about attending Central Michigan University.
